October 16, 2024On Thursday, October 10th, over 200 New York City students joined the FDNY and FDNY Foundation to kickoff National Fire Prevention Week at Rockefeller Plaza in Manhattan.
This event, hosted by Tishman Speyer, brought children together with the New York City Fire Department to learn valuable fire safety tips and get sworn in as honorary Junior Firefighters and EMT’s. They took an oath promising to practice fire safety and to share it with their friends and family. Students also interacted with FDNY members, and saw safety demonstrations from the FDNY robotics and K-9 units.
“Education plays a huge role in the FDNY. We take it very seriously because we know it will save lives,” FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker said.
Throughout the year, the FDNY and the FDNY Foundation provide outreach programs to educate New Yorkers of all ages by promoting fire and life safety at thousands of locations and events in all five boroughs.
