FDNY Foundation Congratulates 70 FDNY Fire Officers on their Promotions
February 14, 2025On Tuesday, February 25th, the FDNY Foundation joined the FDNY for a graduation ceremony for 119 Probationary EMTs in Brooklyn.
The FDNY Foundation congratulates the 119 Probationary EMTS who graduated today. They are a remarkable group and we wish them the best of luck in the FDNY. We thank them for choosing a career of service and commitment to protecting the people and City of New York, and proudly representing the FDNY. We would like to acknowledge the 20 members from the FDNY’s Youth Alumni Program who graduated. The FDNY Foundation proudly supports FDNY Youth programs! We would also like to thank and acknowledge the 7 military members who graduated.
“You need only look at the uniforms you wear and the patches on your sleeves to know you are among the best and the bravest,” FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker said. “You are part of the FDNY. Being an FDNY EMT is a tremendous responsibility. It is a privilege, and it is an honor. You are part of the FDNY family, and we have your back. When you’re out in the field, you will have the backs of your fellow EMTs and paramedics, and you will have the backs of all New Yorkers who need you. That’s what you’ve learned to do these past weeks, and that’s what you’ve sworn to do,” said FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker.
Chief of Department John Esposito added: “Every call you answer, every life you touch might seem like a small moment, but in the bigger picture—to the person you help and their family—it means everything. Your work might not always be recognized by the public, but I assure you that every patient you help will remember you. To them, you are not just an EMT, you are the person who showed up when they needed it the most.”
Chief of EMS Operations Michael Fields said: “As you embark on this noble journey as emergency medical professionals, always remember the profound responsibility that comes with the privilege of serving the public. The lessons you have learned at the EMS Academy are not just theories; they are tools that will empower you to save lives, comfort the afflicted and make a meaningful difference in the world. Your role is crucial, and the impact you will have on the lives of those you serve cannot be overstated. In every encounter, whether big or small, always advocate for your patient with compassion, empathy and steady dedication.”
The EMTs trained at the FDNY’s EMS Academy at Fort Totten, learning CPR, patient medical and trauma assessments, oxygen and ventilation skills, management of hypotension and fractures, spinal immobilization, emergency childbirth, and emergency vehicle operation.
The new EMTs will be assigned to units throughout New York City.
