FDNY Foundation’s Officers Management Institute Graduates Newest Class of Leaders
The FDNY Foundation congratulates the 16 members who graduated from the FDNY Officers Management Institute (FOMI) on May 12. FOMI is offered through Columbia Business School Executive Education and is funded by the FDNY Foundation. The six-month program offers leadership and management training to fire and EMS members. It includes presentations by and discussions led by experts from the corporate community, government and homeland security.
“We are able to provide an extraordinary foundation in management principles and leadership strategies to our members through FOMI,” said FDNY Foundation Chairman Stephen Ruzow. “FOMI gives our senior officers a way to implement new technologies into operations, to assess and identify new threats and to better handle emergency and disaster situations.”
FOMI was developed in the wake of 9/11, to address the need for coordination of resources and response strategies with city agencies, levels of government, private and non-governmental responses.
“Being chosen for this program is a great honor for us all,” said Battalion Chief John Sullivan, one of the graduates. “This has been a tremendous learning experience.”
This is the 12th class to graduate from the program, which has trained some 200 FDNY personnel. The graduates this year created projects they believe can enhance the Fire Department’s policy and strategy.
“The effects of this program are far reaching,” said FDNY Foundation Executive Director Jean O’Shea. “The Department gains so much from this program and we are so proud to be able to fund the work they’re doing.” For more information on the FDNY Officers Management Institute, click here.
