“Chief” Virtual Screening Supports FDNY Mand Library
October 12, 2021FDNY and FDNY Foundation Remind New Yorkers to Check Your Smoke Alarms When You Change Your Clocks For Daylight Savings Time
November 1, 2021On Wednesday, October 20th, FDNY Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro presided over a promotion ceremony for 112 FDNY Fire Officers.
The FDNY Foundation joins the FDNY in congratulating these 112 Fire Officers on their promotions. We wish them continued success and thank them for their service and commitment to the people and City of New York.
“As we reflect on your new roles, we take a moment to remember what makes a good leader. Dedication, commitment, devotion to duty, teamwork, encouragement and devotion to safety. But most of all, I believe great leaders lead by example. This is true at a fire and this is true in the firehouse and off duty as well. Twenty years ago, in my last speech as Chief of Department, at a promotion ceremony similar to this one today, I stated to new officers, ‘If you are welcoming prejudice and bad conduct in your firehouse kitchen, you are delivering the message that ‘others’ are unwelcome.’ Today, this is more important than ever. You are not simply leaders at a fire scene. You represent the FDNY to the public in each action you take. That’s the incredible responsibility that comes with wearing the FDNY uniform. We must all display the moral courage necessary to stop inexcusable behavior that leaves a damaging mark on the entire FDNY. And I know you will do that because I know you take your new roles seriously and you represent the very best this Department has to offer. Embrace this role as a leader for others and continue to maintain our Department’s rightful place as the best in the world,” said Commissioner Nigro.
