The FDNY Foundation congratulates the 298 Probationary Firefighters who graduated today. They are a remarkable group and we wish them the best of luck in the FDNY. We thank them for choosing a career of service and commitment to protecting the people and City of New York, and proudly representing the FDNY.
“This job is a high stakes, critical thinking job. All the preparation you have done, every drill you do at the firehouse, is all to make that very important decision in the few seconds you have to make it, and it will be the thing that saves lives,” said Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh.
“Each of you is taking on the great responsibility of protecting the people of this city and the firefighters standing next to you. When people see us coming, they know that help is here and that they can depend on us. That is the greatest responsibility of all – that we must always be ready to save a life,” said Chief of Department John Hodgens.
