The FDNY Foundation congratulates the 303 Probationary Firefighters who graduated today. They are a remarkable group and we wish them the best of luck in the FDNY. We thank them for choosing a career of service and commitment to protecting the people and City of New York, and proudly representing the FDNY. We would also like to acknowledge and thank the 67 military members who graduated.
“Graduation day is an amazing day, because it is the culmination of all the hard work and discipline you’ve had to exert to get here,” said Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh. “It’s a chance to look back on what you’ve been through: who you are today is very different from you were when you entered the Academy. You are stronger, more skilled, adept at teamwork and willing to listen and learn. You understand the importance of safety, of working together and the mission of protecting life and property.”
“When you get to your firehouses, you will be working closely with firefighters who have many years of experience on the job,” said Chief of Department John Hodgens. “Embrace their knowledge, listen to their experiences. They were once where you are now, and they are there to help you become the best you can be.”
