August 7, 2024On Friday, August 2, the FDNY Foundation joined the FDNY for a promotion ceremony for 49 FDNY EMS Officers at St. John’s University in Queens. Those 49 EMS members were all promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
The FDNY Foundation congratulates all 49 members on their promotions to the rank of Lieutenant! This is a tremendous accomplishment for them and their families. We wish them continued success and thank them for their service and commitment to protecting the people and City of New York and proudly representing the FDNY.
“As you take your first step on the leadership path, you’ll be supervising EMTs and paramedics in the field. They will rely on you,” Fire Commissioner Laura Kavanagh said. “The FDNY EMS community is both strong and resilient, and your leadership will further strengthen the bonds within this community and the ones you serve. FDNY EMS is truly the gold standard. You are the best at what you do.”
Chief of EMS Operations Michael Fields added: “The leadership position of our lieutenants is pivotal in shaping the strategic direction of the Department. As you step into your new roles, you each will bring a wealth of experience, expertise and a deep sense of responsibility. I see greatness in every one of you. Believe you can, and you’re already halfway there.”
The newly promoted lieutenants will now take on supervisory roles and provide first-line supervision for the EMTs and paramedics in the field. They will be assigned to units across New York City.
