FDNY Foundation Congratulates 70 FDNY Fire Officers on their Promotions

On Friday, February 14, the FDNY Foundation joined the FDNY for a Fire Officer Promotion ceremony at Queens College. 70 members were promoted. These included: Four Battalion Chiefs have been promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief, 16 Captains have been promoted to Battalion Chief, 18 Lieutenants have been promoted to Captain, and 32 firefighters have been promoted to Lieutenant.

The FDNY Foundation congratulates these 70 Fire Officers on their promotions. This is a tremendous accomplishment for them and their families. We wish them continued success and thank them for their service and commitment to protecting the people and City of New York and proudly representing the FDNY. We would also like to give a special shout out and congratulations to Michele Fitzsimmons who was promoted to the rank of Deputy Chief. She will be the first ever female Deputy Chief and highest-ranking female in Fire Operations upon her promotion. Chief Fitzsimmons is a 24-year veteran of the FDNY.

You are charged with making hard decisions and keeping our members safe and with building relationships and improving morale. Your new roles come with new responsibilities and new challenges. I urge all of you to rely on your training, to go back to the foundation of your craft and to lead with respect and professionalism. Be the kind of leader you wish you had before you were promoted. And as always, represent the FDNY with class and with pride knowing you are a part of the greatest fire department in the world,” said Fire Commissioner Robert S. Tucker.

Many of today’s promoted officers are recipients of FDNY Foundation funded scholarship programs.
