FDNY Foundation Joins the FDNY to Commemorate the 19th Anniversary of Sept. 11th
September 11, 2020Fire Prevention Week Events: October 4 – 10, 2020
October 1, 2020The FDNY Foundation is proud to announce that our new state-of-the-art FDNY Fire Zone, located at 61 West 48th Street in Rockefeller Center, is officially open to the public! On Thursday, September 10th, FDNY Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro and Chief of Department John Sudnik joined FDNY Foundation Chairman Stephen Ruzow, Vice Chairman Bob Zito and Foundation board members for this momentous ribbon cutting ceremony.
Our new location has an educational theater with physical and technology-based exhibits. Exciting highlights include a larger space to accommodate more visitors, interactive games, and presentations in multiple languages.
Although entirely new and improved, the FDNY Fire Zone kept our staple features. We revamped our full-scale fire truck and continue to offer lively and informative guided tours led by FDNY members. With the larger location, the new Fire Zone has increased retail space that continues to sell official FDNY Merchandise with proceeds directly benefiting the FDNY Foundation.
Keeping in line with our mission to provide lifesaving fire and life safety tips, the FDNY Fire Zone integrates Fire Smart online learning & social media interaction to provide fire safety education remotely.
As the world continues to navigate in this ever-changing climate, we are dedicated to offering a fire and life safety learning experience while being a safe space for those who visit our new location. Our hours are currently Tuesday through Saturday, 11AM – 4PM. Stop-in or make an appointment for a tour by going to: https://on.nyc.gov/3ioqBDM.
On behalf of the FDNY Foundation and our board members, we would like to thank all our generous donors and supporters who made this all possible. We are excited to welcome visitors from across the globe.
