August 7, 2024On Tuesday, August 6th, the FDNY Foundation joined the FDNY for a Bronx Boroughwide Plaque Dedication Ceremony at the Fire Academy on Randall’s Island. Nine FDNY members who we lost over the last year were remembered.
The FDNY Foundation will never forget these nine members we have lost. We thank them for their service and sacrifice to the people and City of New York and the FDNY.
”The plaques we reveal today are intended to keep alive the memories of those who have passed on. They are meant to invite questions, to arouse curiosity and above all, provide honor,” said First Deputy Commissioner Joseph Pfeifer.
“As first responders, we know they were brave, selfless, and honorable. They demonstrated what it means to be a true hero, rushing towards danger when others run from it. Their commitment to the FDNY, to New York City, and to their colleagues – their fellow firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs- will remain in our memories forever,” said Acting Chief of Department John Esposito.
The FDNY Foundation joins the FDNY in honoring the following members:
Lt Michael Higgins, Ladder 19
EMS Lt Redwin Mendez, PSAC-2
FF Robert Painter, Ladder 39
Lt Joseph Brosi, Engine 88
FF Douglas Harkins, Ladder 29
