September 10, 2019With the 18th Anniversary of 9/11 upon us, we look back in awe at the service and bravery of those who risked everything to save lives. We mourn innocent lives lost and remember those who made the Supreme Sacrifice. And, we cannot forget the images of exhausted and grieving Firefighters who searched relentlessly to recover victims in the aftermath of the attacks.
Here at the FDNY Foundation, we strive every day to live out our vow to “Never Forget.” In the years since 9/11, the FDNY has demonstrated remarkable resiliency, rebuilding a decimated Department and emerging stronger than ever. The FDNY Foundation has been there every step of the way, funding state-of-the-art equipment and training for Fire and EMS, fueling innovation and helping the Department reach out to the public with educational programs that save lives.
Our work continues, as does the responsibility of supporting the families of members who succumb to illnesses attributed to the World Trade Center response. In addition to the 343 members of the Department who perished on that terrible day, since September 11, 2001, more than 200 FDNY members have lost their lives and thousands more are battling 9/11-related illnesses. FDNY members and their families live every day with the pain caused by 9/11, and we are determined to stand with them in their time of need.
The FDNY Foundation, established in 1981, is the official not-for-profit of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). The Foundation welcomes tax-deductible donations that help advance the FDNY’s goals, which include maintaining operational excellence, reaching out to the community with fire and life safety programs, and ensuring that our firefighters and EMS personnel are supported and have the best available training and equipment. Please make a donation to honor the memory of 9/11 and those who have died, and to support the lifesaving work of the FDNY.
