The FDNY Foundation received a generous and meaningful grant from the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation.
The $10,000 grant was awarded to the FDNY Family Assistance Unit, which is funded by the FDNY Foundation. The Family Assistance Unit provides funding to families of fallen and sick FDNY members, as well as assists with medical care and counseling for those firefighters and families who need help due to work related injuries.
“FDNY members run towards the danger with one thought in mind – helping others,” said FDNY Chief of Department James Leonard. “Much like Chris Kyle, FDNY members are driven to serve and are willing to go into harms’ way to perform their sworn duty.”
At his core, Chris was a protector and I think he would approve,” said Taya Kyle, his wife and Founder of the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation.
The Chris Kyle Frog Foundation launched just five months ago to honor former United States Navy Seal Chris Kyle.
Kyle is remembered for his honorable service to the United States, as well as his best-selling novel “American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History.” The novel detailed his four tours in Iraq and was later adapted into a movie directed by Clint Eastwood. Kyle was killed in a shooting incident in February, 2013.
Chris Kyle’s wife Taya wanted to honor her husband’s legacy by giving to organizations the Kyle family respects and trusts. On Wed., April 8, Chris Kyle’s birthday, she announced the inaugural Chris Kyle Birthday Grants.
According to Taya, the grants were given to organizations that align with their mission to serve those who serve the public, with a strong focus on family. The FDNY Foundation was one of four organizations honored after an extensive selection process.
“FDNY members see it as their duty and obligation to protect the residents and visitors to New York City,” said FDNY Foundation Chairman Stephen Ruzow. “It is fitting to celebrate Chris Kyle’s birthday and legacy by highlighting the dedication of the FDNY to serve the public. We are honored to be the recipient of this generous grant from the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation.”
“We thank the Chris Kyle Frog Foundation for this generous grant,” said FDNY Foundation Executive Director Jean O’Shea. “FDNY members often put the safety of others before their own. We are so appreciative they are being recognized for their courage and bravery.”
