The FDNY will be better equipped to save lives in New York City thanks to a generous grant from Taylor & Taylor Associates and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company.
The nearly $17,000 grant funds the purchase of a forcible entry simulator as well as firefighter fitness equipment. The grant presentation took place Wed., Oct. 14 at FDNY Engine 28 – Ladder 11 Firehouse in New York.
“We are very thankful for the support from Taylor & Taylor Associates and Fireman’s Fund,” said Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro. “A firefighter’s job is very strenuous, and we’re committed to helping them to maintain healthy lives and stay physically fit. By remaining healthy and safe, firefighters can better protect the community.”
The forcible entry simulator is a large, sturdy door and frame combination that gives firefighters hands-on experience in force-opening locked doors. The repeated practice made available by the simulator will save valuable time during emergencies.
One of the leading causes of firefighter line-of-duty deaths is heart attack and stroke. The grant will also fund the purchase of new fitness equipment that will help firefighters increase their strength and maintain good heart health.
Since 2004, Fireman’s Fund has awarded grants to more than 2,100 different organizations, totaling more than $32 million. Taylor & Taylor Associates has directed $214,000 to the FDNY.
“Firefighters have incredibly demanding jobs – putting their lives on the line to save others. It’s important to support their health and safety, and ensure they have the necessary training,” said Scott Taylor, President of Taylor & Taylor Associates. “We are pleased to be able to show our gratitude for all the department does for our city.”
“Partners like Taylor & Taylor Associates and Fireman’s Fund Insurance Company allow us to do our job and support the critical mission of the FDNY,” said FDNY Foundation Executive Director Jean O’Shea. “Members of the Department are every day saving lives and keeping people in New York City safe and it is our honor and privilege to support that work through the generosity of our wonderful partners, as well as everyone who gives to the Foundation.”
