Holiday Safety Tips from Fire Commissioner Robert S. Tucker

With the holiday season upon us, please watch the video below from Fire Commissioner Robert S. Tucker. Remember that more than one-third of home fires occur during the months of December, January, and February. The holiday season brings a higher risk of fire, with the use of candles, Christmas lights, and holiday decorations. Remember to be #FDNYSmart this season.

-Keep candles away from anything flammable and never leave them unattended.
-Always turn off holiday lights before going to bed or leaving the house.
-Always use lights that are in good condition.
-If you have a real Christmas tree, water it regularly to reduce the risk of it drying out.
